Is Permission Required?

Some have asked if God's Law requires the man to seek permission of a current wife to bring another woman home. The answer is simply no. It is not even suggested anywhere. However there are things to consider.

The problem we have today is that women are raised to think the man belongs only to them and that they have the right to be selfish with him. There are so few Godly men available these days.

If a man brought a woman home with out warning today I'm sure you can imagine the crying and results. Women have been taught that if the man looks at another woman it is her fault for not being complete enough for him or that there is something terribly wrong with the man. I have viewed it as a compliment to the wife. That is if a man is willing to bring another woman home, he must really like the idea of being married and the wife he has is the reason.

There is also the issue of man's marriage. God does not require that we seek the permission of man to get married. Man's license was created to allow types of marriage that God would never allow. Man allows men to marry men today, but made sure to include an exclusivity aspect into the vows. Those vows limit God's blessing and are wrong. However they were made. A good woman would let the man out of that vow.

So because of today's situation I always recommend that the woman give her approval before a man brings a new woman home. I also strongly recommend that the woman be involved, maybe even more than the man! It is different if the women have their own homes, but if sharing a home is required then the woman wants a woman who she can get along with and even become best friends.

There is a lot to consider. Many multiple wife relationships fail these days due to some of what I mentioned above and pressure from society, friends and family. It is fully a Godly choice and needed more than ever today. I believe that Isaiah 4:1 is still to be fulfilled in our future. When you read chapter three though it will be quite the burden for the husband and his existing wife.

Isaiah 4:1 "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach."
